A BRIEF HISTORY OF THE INSTITUTION

Mažeikiai District Family and Child Welfare Centre is a budgetary institution of Mažeikiai District Municipality established in 2016 after reorganization of Mažeikiai District Orphanage and Elderly Peoples’ home.  It is a social care institution that performs functions delegated by the municipality in the field of social services.

 DEPARTMENTS OF OUR INSTITUTION:

DEPARTMENT OF CHILD CARE

The purpose of the Department of Child Care of the Mažeikiai District Family and Child Welfare Centre is to organize and provide general and special social guardianship/care services for children who for any reasons have lost parental care. Specialists working in this department ensure that the child’s needs are met by comprehensive provision of consultations and assistance of various specialists.

DEPARTMENT OF OPEN ACTIVITIES FOR YOUTH

The Open Youth Space „100‘ts metų” is intended for young people aged 14-29 who are looking for a safe environment, new forms of communication, being together, and who have free time but don’t know how and where to spend it meaningfully. The main activities of the Open Youth Space include education, thematic events, training, seminars, project activities, interesting discussions, culinary master classes, commemorations of international days, themed parties, outside class hours „in a different way”, sports activities, training of social skills, volunteering opportunities.

DEPARTMENT OF PREVENTIVE SOCIAL SERVICES

The Department of Preventive Social Services provides complex services to the residents of Mažeikiai district who have experienced difficulties in solving problems on their own in order to avoid possible larger social problems and/or social risks in the future.

CRISIS CENTRE

The Crisis Centre develops and strengthens the abilities of service recipients living the centre to independently solve their social problems, helps to overcome social exclusion and restore social ties with society. Specialists organize and provide social services to residents of Mažeikiai district for whom there is a threat to their health or life if services are not provided in a crisis situation.

The Crisis Centre provides accredited specialized comprehensive assistance to those who have experienced domestic violence and to persons experiencing violence in their domestic environment.

DEPARTMENT OF CASE MANAGEMENT AND SOCIAL SERVICES

In the Department of Case Management and Social Services, assistance is provided to families who have experienced short-term and/or long-term social difficulties due to which the parents do not ensure the child’s rights and legitimate interests in the family. The family experiencing social difficulties is supported by a team of specialists consisting of a case manager, a social worker and an individual care worker. The goal of the specialists is to develop, support, restore and/or strengthen the social skills of the family helping them to overcome crisis situations, and enable the family to take care of their children independently and properly.

CARE CENTRE

The Care Centre provides social services, aims to ensure that existing and future guardians (caregivers) and adoptive families and their children have access to and receive the necessary assistance. Specialists consult, mediate, inform, organize training for guardians (caregivers) and adoptive parents, self-help groups and provide all kinds of support.

For persons who want to become guardians (caregivers), on-call guardians, adoptive parents or community child care workers, training is organized according to the GIMK (in English – PRIDE) program.
